Getting Started

Sally here …

Once we made the decision to go sailing, I made a commitment to rustle up money for the Skipper certification course. In the midst of COVID lockdown, there were only essential jobs available here in Tiberias – basically, in the food and healthcare industries. So, with my teaching career in hiatus, I found minimum wage work in a tissue culture lab.

It was literally backbreaking work! Three long shifts sitting at a workbench in sterile conditions (even talking is prohibited to prevent contaminating the cultures).

Somedays, we got to clean test tubes which made a great change from sitting at the bench … but that’s pretty exhausting, too when done for seven hours.

I left home at 6:30am and returned at 4:30 pm, too exhausted to do much beyond sit and stare into space (and comfort eat LOL)

All in a good cause…
